Connecting your practice management software changes a few things in the portal. Knowing the differences in advance avoids surprises for your team.
What disappears
- The Availability menu item. When you're connected to a PMS, your PMS becomes the source of truth for what's bookable online. The in-portal availability calendar is hidden because you don't need it.
What appears
- Link to PMS options on each practitioner. Inside Practitioners → edit a practitioner, you'll see a Link to PMS card and, in the appointment types table, a Link to PMS column to map each enabled appointment type to its equivalent in your PMS.
- The integration row at Setup → Integration, including the Sync Now, Reconnect (Core Practice only) and Unlink/Delete actions.
What you'll see when cancelling or rescheduling
The Cancel and Reschedule dialogs check whether your PMS supports automatic updates and warn if it doesn't.
For both currently-supported integrations the answer is yes:

If we add a new integration in future that doesn't support automatic cancellation or reschedule, the relevant dialog will show a "Manual update required" alert telling you to mirror the change in your PMS yourself.
What stays the same
- The dashboard, activity feed, bookings list, patient search, patient blocks, practitioners, profile, billing and all settings still work the same way.
- The Bookings table still lets you filter, sort and view booking details normally.
Tips & things to watch for
- If a practitioner appears in the portal but not in your PMS (or vice versa), they need to be linked manually after the integration is connected. See Link a practitioner to your practice management system.
- Expect a short delay between making changes in your PMS and seeing them reflected in Fixed Price Dental. Use Sync Now if you want changes to appear immediately. See Trigger a manual sync of your integration.
- Disconnecting the integration restores the Availability menu and clears all PMS links. See Unlink or delete your integration.
