Praktika connects via an API key. You'll get the key from Praktika's support team and paste it into the configuration form in the portal. Once connected, your practitioners and appointment types from Praktika become available to map inside the portal.
What you'll need
- An admin account at this practice.
- A valid Praktika API key, requested through Praktika's support channels.
Steps
- Request your API key from Praktika support. Praktika requires customers to contact their support team to obtain a valid API key for connecting to Fixed Price Dental. Ask them for a "Fixed Price Dental API key".
- Once you have the key, in Fixed Price Dental, go to Setup → Integration.
- Click Configure Integration.
- In the Software dropdown, select Praktika.
- The form opens on the New Connection tab (if you have no existing Praktika connections in your organisation). The Setup Instructions box at the top reminds you to:
- Contact Praktika support for the API key.
- Enter it below.
- In the API Key field, paste the key from Praktika.
- Click Create Connection.
- You'll be returned to Setup → Integration. The integration row should now appear with a green Healthy badge.
- The portal will sync your practitioners and appointment types from Praktika in the background.
After connecting — what to do next
- Go to Practitioners. Edit each practitioner and use the Link to PMS combobox in the Link to PMS card to match them to the corresponding record in Praktika. See Link a practitioner to your practice management system.
- While editing a practitioner, also map each enabled appointment type to its Praktika equivalent in the Link to PMS column of the appointment types table. See Map appointment types to your PMS.
- The Availability menu item in the sidebar will be hidden — Praktika's diary becomes the source of truth for what's bookable.
Tips & things to watch for
- Praktika supports automatic cancel and reschedule. When you cancel or reschedule a booking inside Fixed Price Dental, the change is sent to Praktika automatically — no manual mirroring required.
- If your row shows as Unhealthy later, the most common cause is an invalid or expired API key. Unlink the integration and re-configure with a fresh key, or contact support. (Praktika doesn't use OAuth, so the Reconnect button doesn't appear for Praktika.)
- The Configuration column on the integration table shows a label so you can identify the connection at a glance — useful if your organisation has multiple Praktika connections.
