For full-day or partial-day closures that affect the whole practice (public holidays, Christmas break, training day), the right place is Profile → Opening Hours → Exceptions — not the Availability calendar. Exceptions also update what patients see on your public profile.
Why exceptions, not Hidden blocks?
| Profile Opening Hours Exceptions | Hidden block (Availability page) | |
|---|---|---|
| Affects whole practice | ✅ | ✅ (if practitioners empty) |
| Updates the public listing's opening hours | ✅ | ❌ |
| Has a name (e.g. "Anzac Day") | ✅ | ❌ (only internal note) |
| Can be a partial-day with custom hours | ✅ | ❌ (always closed for the window) |
For public holidays, use Exceptions every time — patients planning ahead need to see them on your listing.
Steps
See Add a public holiday or one-off closure for the full instructions in the Public Listing category.
In short:
- Go to Profile → Opening Hours.
- Scroll to the Exceptions table.
- Click Add Exception, fill in the date, name, closed flag, hours, and optional notes, and save.
When a Hidden block is the right tool instead
- Single practitioner away — use a Hidden block on that practitioner only. The practice stays open; their column on the availability calendar is masked for the duration.
- Internal team meetings — use a Hidden block, set practice-wide, with a note like "Team meeting". The public listing still shows you as open.
- Off-site work — same as above.
