Applies to non-integrated practices only.
If you want a window where a practitioner can only be booked for specific appointment types — for example, "cleans only" on Friday mornings — use an Exclusive schedule. Inside an Exclusive block, only the appointment types you've picked are bookable.
In the portal this is called an "Exclusive session" — but really it's just a way to make a window selective.
What you'll need
- The practitioner.
- The appointment types you want to allow inside the block.
- The date, times and (optionally) a repeat rule.
Steps
- Go to Availability.
- Click Add Schedule in the top-right.
- Switch to the Exclusive tab.
- Pick the Practitioner.
- Pick the Date.
- Set From and To times.
- In the Appointment types multi-select, pick one or more appointment types. Patients will only be able to book these inside this block.
- Set the Repeat rule if needed (off, weekly on..., fortnightly on..., or every weekday).
- Click Add Schedule.
The block appears on the calendar in purple. The event title shows the appointment types in the block.
How it interacts with other schedules
- An Exclusive block on top of an existing Availability block restricts the bookable types inside the overlap. Outside the overlap, the Availability block remains as it was (open to all enabled types).
- A Hidden block on top of an Exclusive block hides the time window from booking entirely.
Common uses
- "Cleans only" on a hygienist's quieter days
- "New patient consults only" before lunch
- "Surgical extractions only" on the days you've blocked theatre time
Tips & things to watch for
- At least one appointment type must be selected.
- The selected appointment types must already exist and be enabled for that practitioner. If a type isn't enabled for the practitioner, patients still can't book it even if it's in the Exclusive list.
- Public holidays and one-off closures should still be handled with Profile → Opening Hours Exceptions or with a Hidden block — not by editing every Exclusive schedule.
